WATCHES
Ulysse Nardin Watch
Nearly ten years since the launch of the first series, Ulysse Nardin’s aptly named Freak still deserves top billing.
The release in 2001 caused horror and bewilderment to course through an industry steeped in tradition and highly conservative in style but it also opened the floodgates for a more lateral approach to watchmaking.
In a radical departure from convention, Ulysse Nardin dispensed with the hour and minute hands, the crown and even the dial; designing instead a movement that sits suspended within the case and rotates around the central axis, indicating the time through its own mechanical operation. The lower bridge makes a revolution every hour, while the upper bridge, fitted with the balance wheel and a novel dual-direction escapement, takes a minute.
This is just one of the superb timepieces featured in our M2 Luxury Watch Guide available now with the latest issue of M2 Magazine.
