LEADERSHIP QUOTE OF THE DAY (22 May 2012): People are more easily led than driven. - David Harold Fink
MAN MADE
Oil Gives Sight
"Adspecs" are glasses that have oil-filled lenses which, when adjusted with the attached syringes, allow anyone to dial in their own prescription just by looking at a chart. Yes they are aesthetically hideous but when you consider they have been developed for third world economies - sight wins over style. So far 30,000 pairs of Adspecs are already in the field around the world, distributed through a variety of aid organizations.
A spokesperson from one of the Aid Organisations claims "they require very little training to dispense, can be dispensed by an organisation's volunteers in the field, they only need to be delivered once and can make a difference for years afterwards, and are inherently safer (and less valuable on the black market) than items such as prescription medications."
The Adspecs aren't perfect. Their seemingly sturdy structure is prone to an arm falling off - nothing a dab of glue can't fix - one of the other improvements needing attention is price: The current version of the Adspecs still cost nearly $20 a pop to produce...a bargain considering they come with a self-administered eye exam built right in, but not as close to the $1-a-pair goal set by the project's founder and director, Josh Silver - nothing a dab of humanity can't fix.
Cross a Bugatti Veyron with a Mack truck and a racing yacht and you’d have... Well, you’d have quite a mess but you’d be some way towards understanding the essence of the XSR48...
