Obama Pitches
President Barack Obama has ushered in the 2010 baseball season for the Washington, DC Nationals, throwing the ceremonial first pitch at today’s game.
Sporting a red Nationals jacket, the president greeted players and military veterans before heading to the pitcher’s mound, where he threw on a Chicago White Sox cap in homage to his hometown team. Obama wound up and executed a wild — if presidential — toss that strayed high and to the left.
Last year, the Southpaw In Chief was mildly mocked for sporting “mom jeans” and, as some put it, a rather weak pitching style. This year, Obama was reported to have been practicing in the Rose Garden before the big game.
The tradition of presidents throwing the first pitch of a baseball season began exactly 100 years ago with William Taft, a baseball fan himself.
