The new Apple boss was rewarded handsomely for taking over as CEO for the late Steve Jobs.

Tim Cook has been given a compensation package valued at nearly US$380 million.

The amount is likely to be among 2011's most lucrative compensation packages awarded to a U.S. executive.

2010's highest paid CEO was Viacom's Philippe Dauman, who received compensation valued at $84.5 million.

Cook's compensation included $900,000 in salary, $900,000 in incentive pay and 1 million shares of Apple (AAPL) valued at $376.2 million at the time they were issued.

Monday's closing price of $421.73 means Cook's 2011 stock grant has already gained more than $45 million.
